Part-02
the new reality is “that the private hospitals are functioning only for the powerful individuals, VIP and rich people”. Some incidents reflected this situation. As, the main objective is to get more money and our common people have no ability to bear a huge amount for their treatment, they deserve no opportunity from the private hospitals. the private hospitals also adopt some exclusionary policy so that the common people have no access to the hospitals. When the country confirmed its first corona virus case, this situation has been noticed. Many ordinary patients have been refused from those hospitals.
Now the practice of denying the treatment is increasing day by day in spite of being given instructions as well as warnings from the govt. So, the govt. has to take steps so that the authorities of those hospitals can be brought under exemplary punishment. The govt also has to take decisions in terms of the reality of Crises.
Besides, COVID-19 has exposed the real situation of our health sector. These are the weakness of the identification of newly infected diseases, the scarcity of doctors and health workers, insufficiency of necessary equipment—s and medicines etc. So this situation has given us an opportunity to re-arrange our health sector. More than three or four crore people live in our country under the poverty level. COVID-19 situation will make it more difficult. So, the govt has to take decisions in terms of the reality of the crises.
Besides, if we want to reach in the scale of developed countries by 2041, a possible health service must be ensured for all people. It is only possible by implementing universal health coverage. According to WHO, the investment in health sector of Bangladesh is the lowest. So, there is no way but to increase the investment in the health sector. The supreme commitment of our govt is necessary in this regard.
Sreelonka, Filipine, Vietnam and Morokko have implemented UHC. Bangladesh resembles those countries economically. So, Bangladesh can also initiate UHC in 2020. Because Bangladesh is completely prepared for any change.
In spite of being treated our health service as UHC (Universal Health Coverage), our common people have to expense 74% related to health from their income. This system is not universal in real sense. Our govt has to ensure so that all people can get health service easily. If the above mentioned situation sustains in the health sector, our next generation will be discouraged from entering this system.
